north portland tour update

This past Saturday’s North Portland Gentrification Tour was another excellent opportunity for Portlanders young and old to learn more about their community and the factors that have shaped it. A group of 50+ joined us on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The group met at Union Station, did a brief walking tour of downtown before boarding a bus, headed to the Hughes Memorial Church. After a soul food buffet and talk with church members, the group departed for the Emerson Street Project, a community gardening space by Groundwork Portland. The bus finally winded its way to the Sons of Haiti M W St Joseph Grand Lodge on Mississippi for a screening of Local Color.

Teressa Raiford, the tour organizer, gave the group an inside look into the North Portland community, with plenty of time for discussion, participation and interaction in the group. Check out a slideshow of image below. More info and resources to be posted in the coming days.

Missed the tour? We’re repeating it this coming Saturday. There’s still a few tickets left (12 as of this posting). Save your spot…purchase here.
