Today, Sappi Fine Paper announced that Know Your City has been awarded a $10,000 grant from their annual Ideas that Matter Grant program. The grant will fund the creation of Renter’s Rights, a comic educating tenants about their rights through a bilingual illustrated book, in collaboration with Community Alliance of Tenants. Funding for the program will enable us to print the 3,500 comics (2,500 in English, 1,000 in Spanish), and make this free resource available to everyone. The publication builds on the success of our previous graphic arts projects, like our Don’t Move Out! poster, Comics For Change! and Oregon History Comics.
Through Ideas that Matter, each designer’s project supports the work of a nonprofit organization of their choosing. Reviewed by a panel of judges working in graphic design from across the United States, this year’s Ideas that Matter projects represent a broad spectrum of causes and were selected based on their creativity, potential impact to the target audience and practicality of the implementation plan. More info about Renters Rights will be posted in the coming months. For more on Sappi’s 2013 Ideas that Matter grant recipients, visit Sappi’s press release on the program.
